Thieves stole four famous paintings from a museum in Sicily. The museum is in the city of Messina. The paintings are very old and very expensive.

Italy's culture minister said the crime happened on Saturday night. The thieves took three panels from a large artwork. They also took one small, double-sided painting.

The paintings are by Antonello da Messina. He was a master painter from the 15th century. These works are very important to the city.

Police are looking for the thieves now. They want to know how the thieves entered. The museum alarms did not make a sound.

The police think a collector ordered the theft.
